Early Life and Career
Born on June 28th, 1921 in Karimnagar district of then Andhra Pradesh, P. V. Narasimha Rao graduated from Osmania University before pursuing Masters in Law from Nagpur University. His yearning for socio-political sphere saw him take part in the freedom struggle and join the Indian National Congress as a full time member. Under the aegis of Congress, he entered into the electoral frame and simultaneously assumed the Chief-Minstership of Andhra Pradesh. During his stint as the Chief Minister, he explored the contentious issues of land reforms and had ably brought forward the implementation of land acts to aid the aggrieved stakeholders from preceding propositions.
National Political Frame
His commendable work as the administrator of state brought him to the limelight of the national politics and gradually positioned him into corpus of prominent lawmakers. He served in cabinet of both Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi in capacity as Minister of Home, Defense and External Affairs. In 1991, the country saw for the first time in its history since Independence, P. V. Narasimha Rao, a lawmaker outside of Gandhi-Nehru political lineage being sworn in as Prime minister. His term as Prime Minister of India bore prominence in the light of fundamental economic shifts brought forward by his government that drastically shaped nation’s economy as a whole. The implications of the LPG policy adopted by the P. V. Narasimha Rao government under the patronage of Finance Minister Monmohan Singh can still be conceived today in corollary with India’s ascendancy to economic zenith as one of the fastest developing country of the globe.
P. V. Narasimha Rao not only adhered to the litigious issues having long term implications but also to those involving the interests of general public. He was held high for distinguish statesmanship of the highest order not only by his colleagues from the party but also from the opposition ranks as well. He died on December 23, 2004 at the age of 83 after suffering from a heart attack.
